A&R
News September 2008
There
have been massive changes in the A&R world over the
last 8 weeks at many of the labels! Of course, the big news
is that EMI's new President, Nick Gatfield, wasted no time
in restructuring EMI's A&R Departments both here in
the US and in the UK. One of Gatfield's first moves was
the hiring of former Island A&R executive Rob Stevenson
as the new President of Virgin in New York. On the West
Coast, Steven Melrose joins EMI as the VP of A&R at
Capitol. In addition to the hiring of Melrose, we hear Gatfield
is also looking for a new head of A&R at Capitol on
the West Coast. In the EMI UK operations, both Nigel Coxon
and Julian Hargraves have left EMI.
And
in always happy news to report, there have been quite
a few A&R hirings over the last two months. Top Songwriter
Kara DioGuiadi joins Warner Bros. as Sr. VP of A&R.
David Welter has left Capitol on the East Coast to join
RCA. Eric Hunter, former Interscope A&R Executive,
joins Glassnote as does Diana Passage while Nate Albert
and Ben Adelson join Universal/Republic. At another Universal
label, Raheen Thomas joins Universal/Motown and Jamal
Meeks joins SRC. Sony/BMG has formed a new label being
run by Matt Shay and Brian Beck in A&R. And after
several years at J Records, Stephen Ferrera exits to join
Davis Massye's A&R team at Mercury. At Sony/BMG on
the West Coast, Matt Walsh exits RCA and Chad Elliot exits
Sony/BMG Columbia-NY. Joining Sony/BMG's RCA will be David
Wolter fresh from his Capital Music Group post. Veteran
Warner Bros. Nashville Executive Tracy Gershon exits the
label after twelve years and joining Warner Bros. Nashville
is veteran executive Scott Hendricks. In other Nashville
news, Clay Bradley exits Sony/BMG and Brandon Edgerton
exits EMI/CMG. Please note that former BMG Music Publishing
Executive Scott Francis has joined Warner/Chappell as
its new President and that Chrysalis Music in Los Angeles
and Nashville have moved to new locations.

illegal that labels can even offer 75% stat. It HAS to

"...A&R Online has been a fantastic experience for me
and many of my artist friends. Since being featured
on the front page, I've had at least a dozen record
labels request my cd and I've established relationships
with a lot of industry executives. I highly recommend
A&R Online to any artist or band seeking to put themselves
in front of labels. I also recommend it to labels who
are looking for real, original artists. My only problem
with A&R Online is.... why didn't I think of it?..."
